{"id":2512,"date":"2011-05-26T07:46:19","date_gmt":"2011-05-26T12:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.superrachelzana.com\/blog\/?p=2512"},"modified":"2011-05-26T07:46:19","modified_gmt":"2011-05-26T12:46:19","slug":"late-night-pet-emergency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/?p=2512","title":{"rendered":"Late Night Pet Emergency"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p><\/p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2513\" title=\"catstamp\" src=\"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/catstamp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/catstamp.jpg 900w, https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/catstamp-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/>\n<p>All afternoon Brutus had been acting a bit strange, but it wasn\u2019t until 9:30 in the evening that I realized that something was definitely wrong. \u00a0The cat was in pain, and not happy. \u00a0He wasn\u2019t moving his tail, so I thought maybe he had gotten into trouble with another cat or stuck in a trap again when he escaped outside. \u00a0My next door neighbor (also a North Dakota native!) happens to be a vet, and she\u2019s very friendly, so I knocked at her door because I knew she wouldn\u2019t mind just figuring out if I needed to take him in to the vet clinic in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>It turned out that basically my cat has kidney stones! \u00a0His bladder was swollen and she decided the best thing would be to empty it for the night so we didn\u2019t have to go into the vet ER or have it rupture or something of that nature. \u00a0So, she got her husband (an anesthesiologist for people) to help hold the cat and run the syringe. \u00a0Brutus was not happy. \u00a0First the vet held him, I held a towel over his head, and her husband ran the syringe. \u00a0That worked medium well. \u00a0Next her husband held Brutus and she held the syringe, and that worked a little better. \u00a0Brutus was STILL not happy, but a lot more comfortable, and we are headed to the animal hospital this morning for a bit of a stay.<\/p>\n<p>What an experience! There were growls, groans, and snarls. \u00a0There were tufts of cat hair flying in every direction. \u00a0My neighbor is amazing. \u00a0She really knows what she\u2019s doing, AND she\u2019s so nice.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Peds is kind of shaking his head over the fact that I\u2019m taking a cat in to the animal hospital. \u00a0It is a bit strange. \u00a0None of our farm cats would have gotten this kind of medical treatment. \u00a0But to his credit, he\u2019s really not saying much other than, \u201cThat\u2019s a lot of piano lessons to pay for that bill!\u201d in a joking voice, because, well, Brutus is really part of the family. \u00a0The kidlets do a great job taking care of him, and even though his escape tactics would drive anyone batty, the kidlets especially love him, and so do I. \u00a0There\u2019s nothing better than reading books next to a cat.<\/p>\n<p>So, in a short bit, I will be loading up my angry and miserable cat into a plastic box, \u00a0and heading out to the vet clinic, after I drop off The Banana at preschool and before I come home and fold a mountain of laundry and get ready to teach piano lessons all afternoon.
