{"id":2515,"date":"2011-05-26T11:29:52","date_gmt":"2011-05-26T16:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.superrachelzana.com\/blog\/?p=2515"},"modified":"2011-05-26T11:29:52","modified_gmt":"2011-05-26T16:29:52","slug":"mr-sneaky-pants-version-6-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/?p=2515","title":{"rendered":"Mr. Sneaky Pants, Version 6.5"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p><\/p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2516\" title=\"collagecape\" src=\"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/collagecape.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/collagecape.jpg 900w, https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/collagecape-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/>\n<p>Mr. Sneaky Pants celebrated his half birthday last Tuesday. \u00a0There was a special trip to the bread store to pick out a caramel roll for an after lunch treat. \u00a0Mr. SP was very excited to not have to do any cleaning on his half birthday . . . the absence of chores on half birthdays is an extremely important part of the day. \u00a0It was a teaching day for me, so there wasn\u2019t a lot of extra time to do special things, but before bed we all sat down with a dish of special ice cream, and The Banana, YaYa and I gave Mr. SP the very special gift we had been working on.<\/p>\n<p>One of our favorite chapter books around here is Sara Pennypacker\u2019s <em>Stuart\u2019s Cape<\/em>. \u00a0This book isn\u2019t as well known as her Clementine books, but I think it\u2019s one of the very best books out there for younger readers in the 5-10 age group. \u00a0It is the hilarious tale of Stuart, who creates a magical cape by stapling neck ties together. \u00a0His cape takes him on some amazing outlandish adventures, like the day he manages \u00a0grow gigantic pieces of toast from toast seeds. \u00a0All the characters in the book and it\u2019s sequel are over the top and incredibly funny. \u00a0We own the audio book (and the print version) of\u00a0<em>Stuart\u2019s Cape, <\/em>and we listen to it on every single long car ride, enjoying it in new ways each time.<\/p>\n<p>On the way back from our last car trip, I got the idea to make Mr. SP a cape made out of neckties like Stuart\u2019s. \u00a0I told YaYa and The Banana, and they thought it was an excellent idea. \u00a0YaYa came up with the idea of putting in a secret pocket in the cape just like Stuart had, and then she made some cardboard toast and toast seeds to fit into the pocket. \u00a0The Banana had a great time picking out all the neckties at the thrift store. \u00a0I did the sewing. \u00a0This was the perfect sewing job for me, because the end product could be messy and crazy, just like Stuart\u2019s stapled cape. \u00a0Things did not have to line up: \u00a0the crazier the better.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. SP was pleased. \u00a0He took the book and the cape to school today for sharing day.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr. Sneaky Pants celebrated his half birthday last Tuesday. \u00a0There was a special trip to the bread store to pick out a caramel roll for an after lunch treat. \u00a0Mr. SP was very excited to not have to do any cleaning on his half birthday . . . the absence of chores on half birthdays is an extremely important part of the day. \u00a0It was a teaching day for me, so there wasn\u2019t a lot of extra time to do special things, but before bed we all sat down with a dish of special ice cream, and The Banana, YaYa and I gave Mr. SP the very special gift we had been working on.
