{"id":2636,"date":"2011-07-04T23:59:27","date_gmt":"2011-07-05T04:59:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.superrachelzana.com\/blog\/?p=2636"},"modified":"2011-07-04T23:59:27","modified_gmt":"2011-07-05T04:59:27","slug":"fourth-of-july-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/?p=2636","title":{"rendered":"Fourth of July Parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p><\/p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2637\" title=\"collagebikes\" src=\"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/collagebikes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/collagebikes.jpg 900w, https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/collagebikes-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/>\n<p>After waking up and eating breakfast, The Banana and Mr. Sneaky Pants spent the next couple of hours asking me \u00a0every ten minutes if it was time to go down to the corner for the Fourth of July Kid Parade yet. \u00a0The Fourth of July Kid Parade is a neighborhood tradition that takes place on our street, and neighbor kids and families come pouring in from all the nearby streets with their bikes and strollers and flags. \u00a0It happens to be one of our favorite things about our neighborhood, a morning of festivities, kid fun, and lots of visiting. \u00a0The kids and families walk\/ride up the street past our house just a bit and turn around and go back to the start, while all the grandmas and grandpas and parents cheer them on from the sidewalk and front yards.<\/p>\n<p>This year I walked in the parade with Squirmy in the stroller. \u00a0We made it almost to the other end, chattering away with neighbors, when there was a brief collision involving one of my neighbors\u2019 kids, so I helped her back to her parents. \u00a0At the start\/finish of the parade is a table of refreshments, an enormously big deal, as you might imagine. \u00a0The street stays blocked off for about an hour while people visit and kids zip around on their bikes.<\/p>\n<p>I splurged this year and bought some decorations for the kids to use on their bikes. \u00a0The Banana picked out some flags and balloons, and we got some streamers in patriotic colors. \u00a0In the past we just sort of used whatever craft supplies we could find in the basement. \u00a0We spent the morning decorating, and then about 15 minutes before the start of the parade Mr. SP came whooshing around the house with a gleam in his eye announcing that \u201cthey are setting up that table of REFRESHMENTS!\u201d \u00a0He loves the refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone loves the refreshments. \u00a0Even Squirmy loves the refreshments. \u00a0He was getting a bit fussy because the whole affair happened right during his nap, but a taste of Daddy\u2019s ice cream turned everything around. \u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2638\" title=\"collageicecream\" src=\"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/collageicecream.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"1600\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/collageicecream.jpg 900w, https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/collageicecream-168x300.jpg 168w, https:\/\/superrachelzana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/collageicecream-576x1024.jpg 576w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have such vivid memories of last year\u2019s super duper humid Fourth of July parade, when I was enormously pregnant, ready to burst. \u00a0It was fun to have him in the stroller this year for his first parade \u00a0instead of in my tummy.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of our holiday was fun too;
