New Rugs
We’ve lived in our house for almost a decade now, and when I was cleaning the entry way a couple of weeks ago I discovered that the rugs next to the door were literally disintegrating. There were holes in the rugs that you could actually see through, and all of the non-slip rubber on the back was actually crumbling to dust, which took me a long time to sweep and vacuum up, actually. Time for new rugs.
While I was rug-searching, Dr. Peds mentioned that I might as well replace the area rug in the piano room as well. When we first moved into our house we didn’t have a lot of spare money for an area rug, and I wasn’t sure what I really wanted for the floor in that room anyway. I am a colossally indecisive person when it comes to household furnishings, which manifests itself in the fact that I just keep using whatever mismatched, homey stuff I have. And I’m pretty OK with that. Very OK with that, actually. Since I couldn’t decide about the rug a decade ago, Dr. Peds ended up picking up a super cheap area rug on clearance at Menards, or someplace like Menards. I never liked that rug, and it was only meant to tide us over until I figured out a plan, but here we were, ten years later, and I still didn’t have a plan.
After several days of intense online rug shopping, I decided that what I really wanted was what I had been wanting all along, braided rugs. In particular, a brightly colored wool braided rug from L.L. Bean that I had been in love with since we got married. So, I ordered a large rug for the piano room (unfortunately not quite as large as I should have gotten, but still large enough to work), and a matching braided rug for the nearby entry. They came last week, and I absolutely love them. I feel happy every time I open the front door in the morning, and I love the colors on the floor in the piano room as well. It’s a great cozy little spot to play games on the floor. I love the texture of the braided wool under my bare feet. The brighter the sunlight, the more colorful the rugs look.
I’m liking them so much I have no idea why I didn’t get them about 7 years ago, or so.
