Mr. Sneaky Pants: Six

The choice for breakfast in the bathtub was homemade granola and “kid yogurt” (vanilla yogurt, as opposed to plain Greek yogurt which is referred to as “Mama yogurt.”  Mama yogurt has significantly less sugar in it in comparison to kid yogurt.).  We were up extra early to fit in presents and breakfast in the bathtub before catching the school bus for kindergarten.

One of the most exciting things about turning six was the opportunity to bring birthday snacks to share with the kindergarten class at school.  About a week ago I asked Mr. SP what he might like to bring for his snack.  (Let me first preface this by telling you that on Sarah’s birthday in kindergarten she said, “Mom, everyone always brings cupcakes and sugar things.  I want to bring something healthy” so we thought very carefully about what a healthy but fun birthday snack might be and came up with fresh fruit and fruit dip.)  Mr. Sneaky Pants said to me, “Mom, the RULE for birthday snacks is that they have to be FULL of sugar and taste really spectacular!  Having LOTS and LOTS of sugar is very important for tasting really good.  Just ask Mrs. Gates, because she MADE the rule about birthday snacks having lots and lots of sugar.”  Hmmm.  We decided on individual cups of ice cream, only we couldn’t find enough vanilla ice cream cups, so we took sherbet cups instead.  They apparently had plenty of sugar, because when Dr. Peds picked up Mr. SP from kindergarten and asked how the snack was, he said, “Yum!  Sugary!”  Mrs.  Gates looked at him a bit strangely.

I made special “extreme birthday smoothies” to drink at lunch, and that was followed by some shield making, and a lot of lego putting together and playing.  When Ya Ya came home from school and The Banana woke up from her nap, we ate special chocolate cake.  It was quite delicious.  And even though Mama said it might be a good idea to have something healthy for supper, like peanut butter apple sandwiches, I was off to church early to sing in choir at the Thanksgiving service, and Dr. Peds relented and made sugary pancakes for supper.  There was pie after church, so my little guy had PLENTY of sugar on his birthday.  Yikes.

Mo Willems is one of Mr. Sneaky Pants’ favorite authors, so I was super excited to find this shirt.  Mr. SP was super excited to wear the shirt.  If you haven’t read the pigeon books, you are really missing out.  We find them hilarious, and also love Elephant and Piggie, and Knuffle Bunny too.
