Sectional Swim Meet
On Saturday Dr. Peds came downstairs and spontaneously declared that we should drive to The Cities to see The Banana swim her last 500 race at sectional finals. So we loaded up Peanut Maximus and brought Mr. TOF as well. The long drive down there didn’t seem that long, actually, and even though it was a little hard to leave behind my plans of getting things done on a Saturday, it was fun to go and support The Banana. We had never gone to a sectional meet before. The Banana was not in the championship heat (although she almost made it there on prelim day). However, she swam her best time EVER, and it was fun to be there for that and fun to see her swim her fastest race when it was her last race. (She actually swam faster than some of the swimmers in the top heat).
It was pretty special, but as special as it was, it was perhaps not even as special as sitting in the cheering section with Mr. TOF, who truly is her biggest swimming fan. He’s been going to her meets ever since she started high school swimming, sometimes even going by himself when I couldn’t go because I was teaching or at a rehearsal. He was cheering like a maniac for her in those final laps, and when she cleared her previous best time, he was actually just hit by a wave of emotion and had to hide his face in his sweatshirt. He couldn’t talk for about five minutes he was so happy for her.
Also special was the littlest brother hopping around in front of me, bouncing in joy and excitement even though I don’t think he knew what he was being excited about. Clearly Peanut Maximus is the good luck charm! Whenever he goes to a meet The Banana swims faster! It was fun to see this tiny little person in the group of passionate parent supporters. The Banana was happy to see him, too.
