Mr. Sneaky Pants Skates

It was the perfect day for ice skating, and since winter weather is on its way for the next few days, I decided that if we were going to accomplish an outing to the ice rink, this would be the day.  After an early lunch, we bundled up.  I let expert skater YaYa decide where we should go, and she chose the rinks at her school, which have wonderfully smooth ice and lots of space to skate.  There was  a bit of mayhem in the warming house, when lacing up kidlets took longer than expected due to BOTH of YaYa’s skate laces breaking.  Luckily I had brought my own skates just in case things worked out and I could actually use them, so I just replaced her laces with mine.  Finally both YaYa and Mr. SP were laced up and ready to go, and the bundled up baby was relieved to be out of the warm warming house.  I took a deep breath and out the door we went.  The Banana chose to boot skate today.

This was the first time Mr. SP had been on skates.  He did great!  I was very impressed.  Of course, there was some falling down, but we had talked about that, and he did a tremendous job of getting back up and trying again and again.  He did not get frustrated with himself or anyone around him.  He was very pleased with the activity, and I was pleased too.  We are excited to go and try again, especially since we only stayed about an hour or so because Squirmy was hungry and smelly and ready for a rest.  I hope to skate too next time.
