Saturday Evening at the Park

We made a spontaneous decision to go to the park late Saturday afternoon and called our neighbors up the hill to see if they wanted to come a long.  They did.  We all walked to our neighborhood park.  I love having a neighborhood park that has a playground.  Last summer our new playground was installed, and it is such a fun and busy place now.  There are so many kids in the neighborhoods that use our park, and the playground is always hopping with excitement.  It is nice to watch all the kidlets play and look down and see a pretty view of Lake Superior far down below the hill as well.

It’s also nice to have a dad along at the park.  While moms just sort of stand around and chat, dads do stuff, like crazy pushes that turn the tire swing into a swooping machine that rivals a carnival ride.  Dads sneak up on girls hanging onto the circular monkey bars and tickle their socks, socks that will never again be any shade of white because those galoshes just don’t stay on feet dangling in midair. And eventually those socks and the feet attached to them have to land on the ground.  Dads are fun pests at the park.

After we played, we invited our friends over for an even more spontaneous supper, which was not at all fancy, but still a lot of fun.  The kidlets from both families ate and ate and ate and ate:  hamburger, bread, ham, vegetables, apples, peanut butter sandwiches.  They obviously played very hard, because their appetites were infinite.
