Christmas Eve

I am so happy to report that I've already taken the meat out of the freezer to unthaw for tonight's Christmas Eve supper.  I have a lot of difficulty remembering to take meat out of the freezer.  While I'm thinking of it I should probably go down and take the meat out for tomorrow's dinner too.  Anyway, for supper tonight we are having steak.  A long time ago in my family the tradition was started of saving the best steak of the year for Christmas Eve supper.  (I grew up on a beef farm).  It was amazing steak, and my mom always cooked it in bacon.  THIS steak, given to us by my dad last summer and transported across Minnesota in a cooler, will not be quite as amazing, but it will still be delicious.  We are going to shovel out the grill, currently buried under the 42 inches of snow we've had so far this December, and fire it  up after church tonight.  What a fun treat.

I am also making some amazing custard, and we'll have fresh, steamed green beans and rosemary bread.  I'm pretty excited about these plans, because I don't typically make very many plans for Christmas and then I feel guilty for not making plans.

I also just scooped out a pan of peanut butter chocolate star cookies out of my oven.  Ever since I was a very tiny girl, peanut butter chocolate star cookies were my favorite Christmas treat (along with peanut butter chocolate covered balls when I got older . . . see a theme?)  My husband thinks Christmas cookies are a little ridiculous, but I don't care.  I plan on eating a couple tonight after my kids start camping out underneath the Christmas tree.

Now you know all about my culinary plans.  Don't ask about the (not-so) sanitary aspect of my house, or the laundry situation.  Let me just say that after eating those cookies, I'll probably be up for several hours attempting to get the MOUNTAIN of laundry folded that I just can't bear to look at any more.
