Random Catching Up

  • It seems that in my fuzzy headedness, I forgot that some of my blog readers had not yet heard that we are expecting Kidelet FIVE in very early December.  It was a surprise for us, but we have a LOT of experience with surprise pregnancies around here and everyone is getting more excited and used to the idea all the time.  Pregnancy always seems to eat away at my organizational skills, which are lacking in the first place, and that pretty much leaves me scrambling and forgetting all sorts of important things all the time, but thankfully with this pregnancy I have not dumped a whole carton of raw eggs upside down in the sink.  I did that right around this time during my first pregnancy and I just stood there astonished that they all cracked apart.  For some reason I completely forgot that raw eggs will fall if they are tipped upside down (that gravity!) and break on impact.  I had been trying to clear out a broken egg from the carton when I tipped it upside down and lost all the rest of the eggs.
  • Because I wasn’t expecting to birth a fifth kidlet from my own body (I fully intended to adopt a fifth kidlet) I got rid of all of my maternity things.  Fortunately, though, I actually gave my favorite maternity things to my willing-to-share-sister-in-law Dot when she was pregnant.  She gave them back to me along with all of her other maternity things she is not currently using, and I was thrilled to find my favorite things in the box!  I had completely forgotten (that fuzzy head again) that I gave them to her in the first place.  There are some things that just always worked for my gigantic belly that I got way back during my first and second pregnancies, and they are so wonderfully out of style that I would NEVER be able to find anything like them again now.
  • Maternity clothes are weird, and always geared toward those super skinny super trendy mothers-to-be. There were quite a few things in Dot’s stash that I think are going to work nicely for me, and one of the biggest surprises is this crazy moo moo tank top dress I am wearing right now, for the first time, today.  I looked at it a bit skeptically when I pulled it out of the bag, but the soft material sold me on the dress, and I stuck it in my closet.  It is a bright green gauzy kind of dress thet is gigantic and flowing down to the knees, with tie dye sections across the middle, and green and black embroidery.  It’s kind of hippy, and bright and not something that I would ordinarily be able to pull off at all, although Dot certainly could.  Today was hot and a bit humid, so I put on the dress and  stuck some leggings underneath it from that first pregnancy and The Banana was very impressed.  She ran to find her most matching outfit, because she does enjoy a skirt with leggings.  Again, that just isn’t something I would ordinarily wear, but pregnancy calls for desperate measures, and if something actually fits, we go with it, right?  Incidentally, although I probably look stranger than strange in this dress, I am completely convinced that it is beyond a doubt THE MOST COMFORTABLE piece of clothing I have ever worn.  I may have a hard time giving it back even when I’m not pregnant.  (You can see the bottom of the dress on the picture above.)
  • YaYa spent the week at Bible camp and returned last night with just enough time to pack for trail ride/horse camp with Grandma Kathy and Auntie Dot.  She and Mr. SP left for North Dakota today and will be gone for ten days or so!  Mr. SP is super excited to be included this year.
  • YaYa had an amazingly super great time at Bible Camp.  When I arrived to pick her up she was perhaps the happiest I’ve seen her in years, bouncing up and down and talking nonstop and at a rapid pace.  I was super impressed with how enthusiastic all the campers seemed at the final chapel service.  I may never have seen quite that much energy in one room before ever.  Some great things happened for her while she was gone.  We had so much fun listening to all of her stories.
  • We got our two huge boxes of strawberries from the Lake Superior CSA this week.  They are scrumptious, perfect red berries, sweet and ripe all the way to the center.  I’ve made freezer jam, and managed to procure enough rhubarb from neighbors to make a batch of the very best rhubarb strawberry cooked jam that is in existence, a repipe from soule mama that I tried and loved a few years ago.  Interestingly enough, no one else from the family really liked this jam because it is strong and a bit tart, so pretty much I don’t have to worry about anyone eating my six jars!
  • We’ve also been eating a lot of strawberries mixed in with bananas, which is my favorite way to eat a fresh strawberry.  Half of the strawberries were frozen to use throughout the winter in fruit smoothies.
  • I actually currently pretty much have the laundry situation under control here, which is something that only happens about two or three times a year.
  • Mr. SP and Mr. TOF and I had a good garage sale morning yesterday.  I haven’t made it to many garage sales this year, which is sad.  I found an amazing set of stainless steel mixing bowls for a pittance, and the biggest bowl is one of those gigantic restaurant sized ones.  I have two restaurant mixing bowls already, but I’m finding that they are getting used so very much now as these children eat enormous quantities of food.  We found lots of other treasures too.
