From the Kayak

This week a box arrived on my front porch, and inside was a submersible waterproof bag for my old camera.  I’ve been eying one for years, and I decided to just get it last week because Lake Superior is the warmest it has ever been, and if there has ever been a summer to submerse yourself in it, this is it.  I can actually wade and stand in the water for long periods of time, and it only feels refreshing, not the icy cold that makes your appendages numb within minutes.  It’s a weird feeling.

The other big reason I wanted a waterproof housing for my camera is that I love to get out on the kayak when Dr. Peds is around to load/unload the kayak and watch kidlets while I’m offshore, and I’ve been longing to have my camera with me.  Of course, there is always the significant probability that I will tip over in the kayak (it thankfully hasn’t happened yet . . . I’m a very cautions kayaker) and there is no way I’d bring a camera along unless it was very well protected.

Last night I got to try it out!  Hooray!  We drove to Stony Point, and  far away from any kidlets jumping around in the waves coming onto shore, around a bend and in calmer waters, I carefully sneaked up to some seagulls.  I have some other pictures of them sitting on a rock, but this seagull taking flight was even more beautiful, as was the amazing sunset that I watched from the water.  I loved that the water was crystal clear at Stony Point.  It’s not far away, and the water was so different from the murky water at our local beaches that is still churned around from the big June flood.  I’ve been missing that clear, beautiful water.
