Ice Project

Yesterday morning, while I was supposed to be folding laundry and getting the house ready to teach lessons in during the afternoon and evening, Mr. Trouble on Feet and I decided to work on a little ice project.

First of all, the idea for this project is not of my creativity, I copied it from something I saw on the internet because I knew that it would be a great project.  I had already frozen a block of ice outside, and then stuck the block of ice into a cake pan.  Mr. TOF poured a ton of table salt on top of the ice.  He was very excited to be holding the canister of salt and doing the dumping himself.  I located an eye dropper and mixed up some colored water, and he pinched and dripped himself silly, moving colored water onto the ice and watching how it caused shafts to melt into the big block of ice.  Well, actually, he was to busy pinching and dripping to really notice the shafts of color, but I observed them and appreciated the colored funnels reaching into the frozen depths.

This kept us busy for at least 45 minutes, and when we were done (much to his dismay, actually, but I had to make lunch) we took it outside to display on the railing of the deck.
