Guests! On a Hot and Sticky Day

We were visited today by some of our favorite friends ever. All the kids who could run spent the morning chasing each other around the backyard, through the house and up and down the stairs. This flurry of activity was interupted about every ten minutes by ALL of them dispersing about the house and reading books! Our friends are amazing, fluent readers, and it just made me beam to see all of the kids sprawled around, books in hand, some reading out loud, some reading silently, and some looking intently at the pictures. After a few minutes they’d pop up and run around again.

They splashed in the wading pool, and in the afternoon we explored the air conditioned realms of the children’s museum and historic depot. We snarfed down three pizzas at the Green Mill for supper, and followed that by a short walk to ColdStone Creamery, where six excited kids slurped down a lot of blue and lime green ice cream. I loved the whole day, and wish we got to do it more often.

I love this picture for sentimental reasons. I love Coldstone. My friend Siri loves Coldstone. Our kids love Coldstone. Yum.
