What I Learned in May

  • Rummaging at Garage Sales with a three year old Batman sidekick (the costume made complete with wings) is an adventure and attracts a lot of attention.
  • Gorillas have an incredible range of facial expressions.  I could stand and watch gorillas for hours.  They say so much without saying anything at all.
  • There is no better feeling than being able to use the gifts God gave you (talents, knowledge, finances, and whatever else) to bless other people.  I had so many opportunities to do this in May, and I was so blessed for it, whether it be receiving a special picture Dachemie, our Compassion International sponsored child wearing new clothes and standing next to a cow her family was able to purchase, or having the joy of taking photographing a local  extended family  and capturing some images I love of an 85 year old pair of great grandparents.  I’m blessed to be able to teach music almost every day.  These things are what make life vibrant, and I love it when I feel like God just made me to do exactly what I’m doing.
  • Stitch Fix is actually really fun.  Everyone seems to be trying it, and because I’m just not a clothes person (I’ll wear my pajamas anywhere, with no shame) I disregarded it for a long time. Then one day I got the crazy, hair brained idea to try it out just to see what all the hoopla is about, and I found out that I really liked getting a box in the mail with surprise contents inside.  Since I hate shopping, it was kind of fun to see what someone picked out that I might like to wear.  The things in the envelope did actually fit my long list of criteria about clothes I won’t wear (things with colors, things that are sleeveless, things that are fitted or tight, no shorts or skirts that aren’t long, etc.)    I definitely would not have even given a couple of the pieces of clothing a second glance if I had come across them in a store, but I ended up liking some of those best.  Some of the things I really liked didn’t quite work on me, but I did end up keeping two things that really did work for me.  I really hate trying things on in stores.  Actually, I just hate going to stores at all, so it was nice to just try the clothes on at home.  I hesitate sometimes to order things online or from catalogs because I don’t want to deal with returning something that doesn’t fit or that I don’t like in the end, but all I needed to do when I wanted to return the things I didn’t keep was load them into an envelope and drop it off in the blue mailbox at the post office.  I didn’t even have to go inside the post office.
  • Playing piano with The Banana and her violin is so much more fun than I ever anticipated.
