Camping at Temperance River: Sunrise

Because the weather was absolutely perfect when we were camping, we left the rain fly off the tent at night and Dr. Peds and I actually slept out under the stars in our hammocks slung from trees, enclosed by a bug net.  Sleeping in a hammock was downright amazing.  It was hands down the best sleeping I’ve ever done while camping.  I love a good hammock anyway, so staying in a hammock cocoon all night was fantastic.  No achy muscles! Privacy!   I was wrapped up in fleece blankets with my comfy pillow.  I could see the brilliant stars through the branches of the big balsam fir trees that held up the hammock.  The trees smelled like Christmas in July.

The hammock was so comfortable that I didn’t really ever want to get out.  I read almost 2 books in my hammock while camping, and when the dawn broke on the first two mornings, I just couldn’t make myself get up to watch the sunrise, even though I knew it would be beautiful from the beach.  Instead I watched the sky turn pink and yellow from my hammock, and then promptly went back to sleep!  Ah!  Glorious!

On the last morning, I did force myself to crawl out of my horizontal bliss, and in the end I was glad that I did because the sunrise that morning was absolutely fantastic.  No one else was up in the whole entire campground.  Dr. Peds came down to the beach for just a few minutes, and way on the other side of the river I could sort of see two other people watching, but that was it.  Everyone else missed out, because it was truly a spectacular sunrise.  The clouds were positioned just right to make paint all sorts of amazing colors in the sky.  I know that all of these images are a lot alike, but if you look closely, you will see how the light changed every few minutes.

After all that glorious, resplendent art in the sky was  finished, I crawled back in my hammock and read for a couple more hours while the kidlets slept on.  They were extra tired from all the activity of the days previous.
