This Cat

Brutus doesn’t like to go out in the cold, which is a great thing because we don’t worry about him escaping and running into the dreaded “Cat Man” up the street who would like to do away with him for good.  One of the glorious things about winter is being able to open the door without having to take precautions for a great feline getaway.

On the other hand, the cat seems to suffer from seasonal affect disorder.  He seriously gets depressed in the winter.  He grumps about.  He lies down all day and meows in a most whiny way.  He demands attention and then scorns his most devoted fans.  He snarls at guests and piano students.  He wants to eat three times his allotted measure of cat food.  He sneaks up on top of the piano where he knows he isn’t supposed to be, but only when I’m not home because he knows I’m liable to throw him across the room if I find him up there.  Smart cat.  He knows what he’s doing in life.  He also knows how to climb up on top of the refrigerator, open the cupboard, bat out the tupperware container of cat treats onto the floor hoping the lid will fall off so he can snatch the plastic bag inside, tear it to shreds and gorge out on his favorite snack.

Yes, my strong-willed, determined friend, life would be just that much more dull without you.
