The Second Soccer Game of the Season

The second game of the soccer season went fantastically well.  When I heard the forecast temperature of 88 degrees, I was prepared for the worst.  We gathered up every water bottle in the house and filled it up.  I even told Mr. Sneaky Pants that if he did a great job at the game and didn't whine or cry and jumped back up after he fell down, we could celebrate by either driving down to the rocky beach and dipping in the cold water, or having a smoothie party at home before bed.

He did super!  He was down on the ground and back up again, and there were no attitude issues at all. Hooray!  He ran, and ran, and ran, and drank water, oh so much water.  It also helped that Dr. Peds was able to come to the game to do some cheering (and laughing), and that our amazing former babysitter, Sophie, a terrific soccer player herself, took time out of her vacation home to come and visit us AND come to the soccer game.  (The Banana latched on to her and wouldn't let go . . . she's been praying many, many times a day that her Sophie would come to her house soon).

The soccer team we played against was really amazing.  The kids really knew how to play!  Our own team is a bit more relaxed, more eclectic.  For example, one little guy spent several minutes chasing a bird on the other side of the field.

Mr. SP ran around in circles when he got distracted, forgetting to chase the ball  Point in case, in this next picture, he's running toward me, and the ball is going off in a completely different direction.

Mr. Sneaky Pants was also enraptured with his own shadow, and kept chasing it instead of running after the soccer ball.  This next picture is out of focus, but look where he's looking!  The ball is once again going a different way.  He loves his shadow, my boy.

It was a hot evening, happily spent.  For the record, we came home and we did have a smoothie party. (apple juice, grapes, raspberries, strawberries, flax seed . . . it was very tasty).
