Cabin Weekend: The Cousins Take a Boat
Dr. Peds’ extended family were unable to meet at the family cabin where we usually spend a weekend together in the summer, so we needed to find a different cabin on a lake for our cabin weekend this year. It all worked out, and we had a great place where the kids had a wonderful time swimming and kayaking in the lake and the grownups had plenty of time to chat.
One evening right after supper, some cousins asked if they could take the resort boat out. The boats are there to be used, but if you want a motor for the boat, you have to rent it. Since there was no motor, the grown ups said “Sure!” Pretty soon all the cousins except two were in the boat together with a random collection of paddles, and Devious Snail, the official rowing expert, had appointed himself as coxswain. They didn’t go far, only zig zagging to the swimming raft, but it was crazy hilarious to watch them.
