2010 Adventures in Soccer: Part 4

Observation:  Mr. SP closely resembles a sheep dog on the soccer field, and as Dr. Peds noted, with his lack of a haircut, he’s probably most like a border collie. Like all soccer players, Mr. SP spends a great deal of time running at the soccer game.  It’s just that he always seems to be running in circles around the outside of the glob of players who are actually chasing the soccer ball.  He sort of just herds all the players randomly around the field.  This, I think, has the potential to possibly be frustrating for that type of coach who is focused on game skills (luckily our coach is very low key). It’s also a bit frustrating for my husband who keeps asking, “Does he not get the concept?”  I, however, am considering it a success if he doesn’t get trampled by the other team, or angry and frustrated with the person who trampled him.

The problem with soccer is that it’s just sooooooooooo long!  It’s so hard for all the preschoolers to keep focused the whole second half of the game.  They keep asking, “Is this game over YET?”  If it could be half as long, they’d be so much happier.  But that’s OK.  Their bodies are moving and healthy.
