Early, Early Morning Conversation

I’m usually up early. He’s usually up early. But today I actually didn’t have to be up early. He was still up early, so he crawled into my bed for a minute, asking me repeatedly to get up and make him breakfast. The sun was not anywhere close to being up.
Dr. Peds: Maybe you’d like to stay in bed since it is still dark.
Peanut Maximus: I will live graciously in the dark.
Me: Did he just say “live graciously?”
Dr. Peds: He did.
Peanut Maximus is nothing if not highly verbal, but I thought I might be dreaming for a second because that is quite the statement from a four year old.
I did get up to make him breakfast. And after I thought about it, why not make the decision to live graciously in the dark? It might be just the thing for the autumn and winter season, when darkness permeates the morning, the evening, even the afternoon.
