Excursion

YaYa is here for a visit, and it just worked out that last Friday I did not have anything on the schedule, not even transportation for Mr. TOF and his various activities. For weeks I had been wanting to drive over to Bayfield to procure apples, so we decided to take off and do it!

I won’t lie, the car ride was a little rough even though the scenery was absolutely gorgeous. The resident preschool was fixated on the fact that the car was driving too fast, and whined and fussed for nearly an hour about how we needed to slow the car down. YaYa was about ready to crawl out of the car while it was traversing at highway speeds because she was so over the fussing.

About six miles before we arrived at the orchard the resident preschooler decided it was time to cooperate.

We visited two orchards, and bought several bags of apples: Cortland and MacIntosh to turn into applesauce and honeycrisp to eat because there is nothing like local honeycrisp apples, they were designed for us! (I regret not buying more MacIntosh apples because they make such amazing sauce. Hopefully I will remember to get more next time!)

We went to a local bakery to have sandwiches for lunch, and then took shifts at the park with Peanut Maximus so we could quickly wander a few of our favorite shops in peace. Peanut Maximus loved the park. It really is one of the best.

Perhaps the highlight of the afternoon was getting to try writing with a Blackwing pencil in the local bookstore. Luxury. The graphite practically melts onto the paper.

On the way home we tried to stop at our favorite beach on the Apostle Island National Lakeshore, but unfortunately you could only pay for access with a cell phone. Grrrr. So we went to the beach in Cornacopia instead. The sand was so fine and lovely! Peanut Maximus was in and out of the water, and dragging sticks wherever he went.

There is a natural spring at this beach, so we filled up our water bottles with the most delightful water in existence before driving back home and sticking Peanut Maximus in the warm shower. He fell asleep on the way home, so that ride was much more peaceful!
