Some Things I’m Loving

  • We have had a lot of warm weather this summer, and I have particularly been enjoying fruit smoothies on extra hot and muggy afternoons. There’s something refreshing about sitting and slurping a cold, red smoothie through a stainless steel straw.
  • A few months ago, near the start of the lockdown, I started storing my dirty laundry in a basket in my room rather than tossing it down the laundry shoot with the rest of the family laundry. I actually LOVE my laundry shoot. However, there has been something very gratifying for me to haul my basket of laundry that contains my clothes, and my clothes only down to the basement washing machine once a week. It fits in one load or two, and it stays all together. Then I haul it back up the stairs all at once. It kind of makes me feel like I’m in college again . . . my own basket of my own clothes and no one else’s clothes. My personal laundry load feels like self care, even though I do all the other laundry too.
  • Occasionally this summer we’ve stopped at our favorite ice cream shop that makes their own ice cream in unique and tremendously delicious flavors. Since they installed a serving window, they are now scooping ice cream again, and I’ve been loving ice cream in a waffle cone as a special treat. My favorite flavors of the summer have been goat cheese cherry and honeyberry. The honeyberry ice cream was particularly delicious.
  • I had two pairs of Darn Tough socks that I had worn through to pure holes in the bottom, and a few weeks ago I decided to try out the lifetime guarantee that comes with the socks. I always thought it was kind of a joke . . . a marketing tactic, but it turns out that you can actually send in your old socks with holes and get full credit to purchase brand new socks from their online store. Wahoo! Two new pairs of socks came in the mail in the most adorable box, smelling of fresh lavender last week. I love my new socks and the whole experience.
  • I tried a new recipe for peanut butter oatmeal cookies, and I think they are yummy. However, in our family of six, four people seem to like the cookies a lot, and two dissenters dislike them so much they won’t even eat them, which is saying something considering that the subject matter is cookies.
  • In this summer that looks so different from other summers, where going to visit places indoors is less accessible than usual, we’ve been blessed to discover all sorts of new pockets of beach right in our midst that even though we go to the beach each Sunday night all summer long and then some, we hadn’t actually been to before this summer. It’s been refreshing and fun to explore these new wonderful places right under our noses even though we’ve lived her for 13 years now.
