The tile next to the door in our family room was finally installed last week! I have been waiting and waiting. I LOVE the pattern on the tiles so much, although my family loves it a lot less. It makes me incredibly happy every time I walk into the room. The tile on the ledge in front of the fireplace also matches. I am also simply loving the fact that the flooring in that room is finally finished! The wood flooring was installed in February, but we have been waiting and waiting for the tile to get installed, and in the meantime, the concrete floor was exposed around the smaller area of old red tile, which was just, well, a really icky situation that was hard to clean and really ugly to look at.
On my birthday I was gifted this amazing foot warmer from my husband. I love it way more than I ever imagined possible! It is so toasty! It’s like a miniature water bed for your feet. There is a hot water bottle insert that is heated by a charging cord, and it stays warm for hours and hours. I can carry it everywhere I go, and even better, the hot water bottle can be used outside of the fuzzy foot pocket, so sometimes I stick it in a pillow case and just cuddle with it. Right now it is sitting on my lap keeping me nice and toasty warm. Everyone in the house is trying to steal this from me all the time!
For months I have been cutting and cutting and cutting homeschool manipulatives. My sliding paper cutter died, so I recently invested in a guillotine paper cutter (it’s smaller and not has heavy as the industrial ones in a school) and it has been incredibly helpful.
A few months ago I bought the Lourve Art Deck. This lovely box of large art cards shows some of the museum’s famous works by famous artists. Mr. Trouble on Feet and I have been really enjoying choosing a random painting of the day to examine. The synopsis on the back of the card is the perfect length and gives great suggestions of details to appreciate in each painting. Best of all, the commentary is easy to understand, but it doesn’t dumb anything down for kids. In fact, these art cards are really intended for teenagers and adults, I think. Our “painting of the day” is one of my favorite part of each weekday.
This fall and early winter I have been making a Friday evening tradition of having a hot bath or taking a sauna. It’s a great way to start the weekend. I always feel chilled after our Forest Friday excursions, even though I don’t actually feel chilly when we are tromping around outside, and after a hot bath or sauna, my whole body feels relaxed, like it could just melt away.
I have been loving that are streets have not been very icy yet this winter, which makes going for a walk so much easier.
