At the Cabin: Celebrating Auntie Dot’s Important Birthday

Auntie Dot had an important birthday right before family cabin weekend, so of course we needed to celebrate with everyone all together. What could be more perfect than a parade from the back cabin to the front cabin and around the loop a few times? The kidlets and cousins made cardboard marching instruments, and Grandma Kathy supplied wonderful kazoo-like noisemakers. It was indeed a raucous, noisy affair! Auntie Dot rode in style in a special “float” designed just for her. There were drums of every size and shape, and The Banana even crafted a stellar cardboard bassoon with a kazoo mouthpiece and purple cardboard keywork. (It was so great we had to bring it home with us).

Following the parade the birthday girl was seated on her throne of ancient age, and treated to wonderful gifts that she will use for years to come. Under her chair was a lovely catheter bag (otherwise known as a “pee purse”) filled with apple juice. It looked terribly realistic. On her head she donned a diaper in addition to her birthday tiara.
