When I had to rearrange a setting of Psalm 139 to make it work for Sunday School music with elementary students this month, I ended up learning to use the free version of Sibelius notation software. It involved a little bit of trial and error, but in the end I was very grateful for access to a basic music notation software that I can print little snippets of music for students now and then. Someday when I get a fancy iPad with a pencil, I will try out the version for iPad. I’m not sure if it truly is as majestic as it sounds, but turning penciled-in music notation into printed notation would be amazing.
I learned about a new trail in the neighborhood that I didn’t know about before! In fact, I am going to walk on it this afternoon. It just floors me that after living here for fourteen years, I am STILL discovering trails in my neighborhood.
Mr. TOF and I read an interesting book about Mennonites from Prussia who moved to Crimea to escape conscription and developed Turkey Red winter wheat. They emigrated to Kansas and brought specially selected wheat seed with them. It was very interesting, and I really didn’t know very much about it until now.
I have FINALLY learned a basic vibrato on the cello!!!! I’ve only been working on it for FIVE YEARS!!!!! I was so excited when for the first time this month my teacher did not tell me to stop and start over because I had something majorly wrong. In fact, I came home, collected my husband, and went out to eat for lunch to celebrate!
I learned that planting 100 crocus bulbs with a spoon on the side of a hill in your yard will make your hand hurt. I am excited to see if they come up in the spring.
