A Few Things I Recently Learned
- I’m still working on learning Chopin preludes at the piano, and I add a little bit to my collection that I can play each month. They just seem to be a good fit for this time in my life when I need to work on short things that may be really challenging or not that challenging. Over the past few weeks I also learned a Slavonic Dance by Dvorak, a short piece by Couperin, and reviewed pieces by Debussy and Rachmaninoff.
- I learned about barform as a composition structure in hymns.
- I learned about the artist Piet Mondrian.
- I have instituted French Horn Fridays, and I’m loving it! I learned two pieces for French horn this last month. It has been so fun to be playing French horn a little bit here and there.
- On the cello I learned short piece by Couperin, and I’m still working on pieces by Bach and Vivaldi. Right now I am unable to take cello lessons (childcare issues), so I really need to make a better consistent practice plan for my cello that incorporates a bit more variety. I usually depend on having lessons to motivate my practice habits because having to go to a lesson injects a bit of terror and urgency into practice time.
