Celebrating

I asked Dr. Peds multiple times what I could make for his birthday. Blueberry muffins for breakfast? Cake? A treat? Some other special food of one sort or another? I got no definitive answer. He finally apathetically said “Toast with avocado.” It turns out he meant for lunch. I thought he meant for his birthday treat. I thought, Whatever! So on the way back from violin we made a lightning fast trip into the COOP to purchase good bread and then rushed home for Ash Wednesday church services. After church, I sliced a few generous slices of toast, mashed up some avocado and made a “layered cake” out of toast with avocado frosting. By frosting I mean: just smashed avocado. We stuck a candle in it and put it on the cake platter and called him in.

He was surprised. Even though he knew I bought the bread for toast.

We delivered the toast cake with the customary wild and crazy singing and mayhem, even though it was just The Banana, Mr. TOF and I singing. We can still make a generous racket.

After the candle was extinguished, we cut up the toast like cake pieces.

Later that evening I said, “Hey! You have to admit I make great avocado toast!”

Dr. Peds asked, “Did you taste it?”

Uhm. No. What more could he want? Butter?
