The Banana Skates for the First Time Ever

It was 23 degrees out yesterday, which felt lovely and balmy and just right for ice skating, so after school when all the homework was finished, the kidlets and I bundled up and grabbed the skates and away we went.  The Banana has been watching all the kids skating at the elementary school when we pick up Mr. SP every day at noon, and she has been itching to try skating herself after Mr. SP met with success a few weeks ago.  YaYa’s skates from last year fit her perfectly (YaYa has small feet. The Banana has big feet).  We talked about falling, and how you have to fall a lot when you are learning to skate.  She was not deterred, and for good reason.  The Banana turned out to be an awesome little skater.

She started out with the chair, and about fifteen minutes later she was off on her own, shuffling around the rink.  To say that she was tickled pink with herself is a vast, vast understatement.  She was thrilled beyond measure with herself.  She was over the moon excited.  Now I have three skaters!  I can’t wait until we have new laces for YaYa’s skates and I have my laces back for my skates.  It is going to be a skating fiesta, providing that Dr. Peds is available to watch Squirmy.

Mr. SP spent the whole hour and a half we were at the rink positively zipping around at breakneck speed, as happy as I’ve seen him for ages.  We came home, and he cheerfully went up to his room, plopped down on his bed and was zonked out not five minutes later.  He didn’t even wake up for supper.  I like the potential of skating wearing kids out.
