Celebrating Seven

I wish I could tell you that this young lady's birthday began with a perky mother happily preparing breakfast before the sun even thought about rising, but in fact, the day started at 5:30 a.m. when Sarah and the Banana climbed in bed with me, begging for me to cook oatmeal.  They were soon joined by Mr. Sneaky Pants.  I staved them off for a while, and then realized that after  my sleepless night (a bad case of insomnia led me to read an entire book between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.) there was just no way I could climb out of my bed, so I bribed them with some special computer time while I slept until 7:00 a.m.

Sarah picked oatmeal for breakfast, which is a huge favorite among all the kidlets.  Note their Christmas pajamas.  I finally peeled them off each body this morning.  They have been wearing them for two days and nights straight.  Grandma Robbie always knows how to shop for great pajamas.

Because breakfast consisted of oatmeal, it was a quick affair.  Oatmeal gets slurped down incredibly fast in our house.  In fact, by the time I got my camera ready to document breakfast in the bathtub, Sarah was already finished with her bowl.  She thought this was very humorous.

After Dr. Peds arrived home from a long night at the hospital, there were presents to be opened.  Good presents!  Sarah was excited about ALL of them:  fancy paper, connectagons, a special paper cutting machine, fantastic books, a lovely rag doll from Grandma Kathy, a learn-to-crochet kit.  Present opening was made even more interesting because Dr. Peds brought home some "Get Well Soon" balloons from the hospital that someone didn't want.  The balloons were a big hit with the small siblings who didn't have presents to open, and they bounced and jabbed at them the entire time.  When the paper was done flying, there was much playing to be done.

The whole family got into building with the Connectagons.  Sarah has been wanting these for a long time.

Lunch was a crazy affair of eating pizza and baking a birthday cake, and after a brief early afternoon respite while the youngest household members napped, our favorite friend from up the street came over to play.  This experience was made even better by the fact that after we all ate a little cake, Dr. Peds took The Banana and Mr. Sneaky Pants to the aquarium, so that the big girls had the entire house to themselves and could play whatever they wanted without being interrupted by little people.  That was a very rare treat.  They played dolls.  They played in the snow fort foxholes out in the yard.  They came in and used the paper cutting machine to make art projects and paper dolls.

After supper we tucked in a very, very tired and emotionally drained  trio of kidlets.  Sweet dreams.
