Concerning Breakfast Cereal
Sometimes, on a busy morning before school, YaYa eats a bowl of dry grape nuts. No milk. She turns her nose up at milk on cereal because milk makes things soggy, which I completely agree with and totally understand. However, I’m a bit surprised that she likes grape nuts. Grape nuts are a bit of a difficult chew, especially dry.
This morning she was sitting by the fire.
YaYa: Mom, did you KNOW that those the people who make that organic raisin bran cereal are LYING???
Me: What do you mean, honey?
YaYa: They say that it is organic, but the fifth ingredient on the box is sugar! There is a ton of sugar in there! It can’t be healthy if there is that much sugar.
Me: Well, organic doesn’t mean sugar free. You can include organic sugar and still have an organic food. Organic just means that there aren’t chemicals.
YaYa: Almost every single kind of cereal has sugar in it! It’s ridiculous.
Me: I’m not sure if they all have sugar. I don’t think grape nuts have sugar? Maybe you should check the box.
YaYa: You are right. Grape nuts probably don’t have sugar, and I think that’s why it tastes like cat food. But I still eat it.
