That Girl

She’s persuasive, that girl of mine.  When she has an idea, she usually has a plan as to how to make the idea happen.  For example, tonight she’d already eaten supper.  When I got done teaching I reheated the leftover supper my kidlets hadn’t consumed.  There was not a lot left, so to supplement the meager portion, I had a small bowl of granola with Greek yogurt.  She bounced in the kitchen and looked at my bowl.  She stood on her tiptoes to see what was inside the bowl, and then looked up at me and asked, “Can I have one bite or can I have two bites?” She didn’t mention that not having any bites might be an option.

Furthermore, she knows exactly how to convince me to take her to the bread store for lunch after we are done with Monday music class.  “But Mama, the bread store would be the perfect thing today.  You are hungry.  I am hungry.  We need bread and if we had  a grilled cheese for lunch there we could get it all done at once, and then we could come home and put Isaiah right down for nap.”  So of course I give in.  Because I AM hungry.  And I love bread from the bread store.  And because we have such a good time eating lunch there together.  And because next year she’s going to be at kindergarten during lunch time.  Sob.  Sniff.

“What will you do without me next year?”  she always asks me with a sigh.  And then she reminds me about how she helps to push the stroller loaded with musical instruments into the assisted living centers for music class, and about how she prevents me from driving away from the grocery store without forgetting to pick up my groceries that I’ve already bought at the pick up window.   And the truth be told, I will miss spending a lot of great time with her, and I really will miss all the running and helpful things she does for me all day.

Tomorrow is kindergarten round up.  She’s very excited.  I’m kind of sad about taking her, but kind of excited that she’s so excited, and so ready to go to the big kid school next year.

Oh Rachel I can heard you. Thomas turns 27 on the 27th. His golden birthday. It seems like just yesterday we went to kindergarten roundup. So happy she is so excited about school. I still remember Thomas in his blue Mickey Mouse sweat suit, with his backpack on his back, and his toe head getting on the bus with the biggest smile. The memories are so exciting.

Oh,Rachel I know just how you feel. How I remember as each one went to school. I’m so glad she is so excited to go to kindergarten. What a gem. Her teacher is in for a treat.
