The Snippets Book Has Arrived

It’s true that my daily photo project chronicled on Daily Snippets sometimes bogs me down.  It sometimes makes me crazy, like when I forget to take a picture entirely for a day or two, or when I look at the clock and realize it is eleven p.m., and I haven’t taken a picture and think what in the world could be interesting at this hour?  It is true that I look at those daily images, not designed to necessarily follow the rules of photography, but rather to capture snippets of our daily life, and I get frustrated!  Because although there are some daily images that I LOVE, there are a lot that are just . . . meh.  And I look at the meh, and it’s easy to compare them to all sorts of other photographers amazing images and just feel inadequate.  It’s also true that some days I don’t want to take a picture because I’m grumpy and uninspired.

BUT then I remember how many times I’ve taken an image I LOVE when I wasn’t expecting to because I just happened to pull my camera off the mantle when I didn’t want to, and I’m so grateful for my Daily Snippet project.  And when I get that great big book with all the daily images printed for the year, it’s sometimes those meh images that I had nearly forgotten about that I cherish the most.  I’ve used Blurb publishing for my Snippets book for the last two years that I’ve done the project.  I’m not always so excited about the color accuracy at Blurb, and sometimes putting the book together with their publishing program is a chore, but Blurb is inexpensive, and the Snippets book is big, with lots and lots of pages because I put each day’s single image on a page.  None of the printers I use for my business make books thick enough to have one image on each page and the other printers are much, much, much more expensive.  I use a better printer and print multiple volumes for our special family image books (although sadly I’m behind several years on that project).  But Blurb works for the Snippets project, and I have forced myself to be timely both years in getting that thing printed near the first of the year.

Our Snippets book arrived yesterday in the mail, and we’ve already looked at it often and enjoyed it much.  All of this means that I continue to slowly work my way through another Snippets project for 2013, because in the end I gain much through this project.  The kidlets are not always so excited about my camera following them around every day, but they love the Snippets book too.
