Mr. Sneaky Pants Sneaks Again

After lunch, Sarah hopped on the bus for school. The Banana was napping in her crib. My husband built a blanket fort downstairs in the family room for Mr. Sneaky Pants. He decided to have a bath, and Mr. Sneaky Pants was playing so nicely with the blanket fort while I worked on the computer, that I decided to let him have some quiet playtime for a bit before I put him down for a nap in his room. I worked away on the computer, and was soon joined by my very sticky son, two frosted animal crackers in hand. “Where’s Dad?” he said. “I need to give him some of these animal crackers. They’re tasty.”

Animal crackers?

While I had been enjoying the peace and quiet, it seems that Mr. Sneaky Pants had been sneaking . . . again. He got up onto the counter in the kitchen (we’re still not sure how) and discovered a zip lock bag filled half full of his father’s frosted animal crackers, the extra sugary kind. I anxiously asked him how many he had eaten. “Oh, a few,” he replied innocently. Ha. Ha.

I washed his sticky hands and gated him into his bedroom for nap and went downstairs to check the bag of animal crackers. I couldn’t find it! The sneaky kid had stashed it away! I did, however, find my food cupboard open. Next to it, on the floor, was a suspicious spoon and an interesting trail of powdered sugar mixed in with brown sugar clumps. Inside the cupboard it was obvious little hand had done their fair share of rummaging.

When my husband exited the bathroom, I sent him downstairs to look for the animal cracker bag. He came back up to my office after a few minutes, with the said item in hand, laughing. There were two mouth-sized holes in the zip lock bag with a series of bite marks around the edges of the torn plastic. Apparently he couldn’t get the top open, but those frosted goodies looked so tempting he decided to chew right through the plastic to get at them. The bag was definitely not half full anymore.

That afternoon he made a very nice audio recording about his animal cracker experience, but unfortunately I am unable to link to the file so that you can hear him tell the story himself.
