Another Sick One

Here's the latest (and hopefully last) victim of the flu at our house.  He held out a long time, through his sisters' long, drawn out time of sick, but he finally succumbed to the raging fever on Monday.  So, we spent a lot of the week cuddling up with an enormous bag of books from the library, listening to audio books, and resting.

By yesterday afternoon, he was starting to feel a little more perky, so we brought out the play doh box, and he and The Banana made some interesting monsters.

I love the evidence of her attitude in this image, while she tells me how I should photograph her monster and all of its features.

We played a kid-adapted version of the game cathedral, one of my favorite games, and one Mr. SP was especially excited about.  It usually rests on the tallest dresser in my bedroom so that the pieces do not become strewn about the house, used in various medieval building projects.  (I hope to write a more detailed post about cathedral soon).

We loved up Brutus the cat.  We played a Candyland (I am so happy that Dr. Peds stacks the cards for that game, and leaves them specially stacked and wound up with a rubber band so  that miserable board game goes by fast, fast, fast.)

Ya Ya got a ride to activities at church with our neighbor around the corner, and while she was gone, Mr. SP and I took out My First Words Magnetic Poetry to play with.  We just had a blast coming up with crazy sentences using the simplest words in the box, and he was doing an amazing job reading the sentences and sounding out words (something I can take very, very little credit for . . . I mainly attribute it to his obsession with starfall whenever he has a chance to have computer time).  He wasn't ready to stop playing with the magnets after I had exhausted all the sentences I could make with about 25 words.  I suggested maybe he'd like to try reading a sounding out book.

Mr. SP was so excited to bring down the box of sounding out books, and he did a great job reading two different stories.  We were both so excited to tell Dr. Peds when he got home from the hospital late at night.

Mr. SP is doing a lot better today.  Hooray!
