On the Lakewalk Tonight

To escape the heat and opressive humidity, we went for a stroll on the lakewalk tonight, where the cool crisp breeze floats across the icy water and chills your skin. Here is what I saw:

1. A flotilla of sailboats having a race. I’m not all that familiar with sailboats, and I haven’t really had the opportunity to watch them up close, so it was really fun to observe their strategies for getting around the course quickly. There were a couple that made a quick turn close to shore, and it was really fun to see them flip their billowing sails.

2. A small group of quite insane teenage boys DIVING off a large rock into the lake. Not only is the lake FRIGID, but it always amazes me when people dive headfirst off rocks into water that has to have more rocks underneath it. I’m sure they felt refreshed, but the possiblity of head injuries made me a little queasy.

3. A family with two sets of elderly grandparents having a cute picnic.

4. Lots of bikes, babies in strollers, toddlers with crazy hair wobbling about in sundresses, and people running.

5. A large oil tanker anchored off in the distance with one crane reaching up as the fog rolled in.

6. Dog mess on the bike path: Why don’t people clean up after their pets? Dog mess smells on a hot day.

7. An amazing, artistic collection of lucious roses of all colors and shapes, and thick hanging baskets of hot pink petunias.

8. A gaggle of people taking pictures of roses and sailboats with gigantic lenses and spiffy tripods. I was so sad I didn’t grab my camera to take along. Somehow, in the confusion of opening a stuck window and getting everyone buckled into the car, I forgot my camera. The light was PERFECT.
