Visiting the Cows on Thanksgiving Afternoon

In the middle of the afternoon, Auntie Jennifer and I bundled up all the little people and headed outside.  While the others piled into the ranger for a little ride around the farm, Mr. TOF wanted to head straight over to look at the cows.  We found cows of all sizes:  Daddy cows, baby-just-weaned cows, Mama cows, teenage cows.

This is a portrait of a bull.  He was not cute, but he was cuter than his companion in that pen.

Mr. Trouble on Feet got a big charge of watching these two bulls head butt and push each other’s face away from the food in the trough.  They were cuter than the other bulls.

The other kids came back and we visited all the pens again.

My favorite moment of the day:  all of the kids lined up on the fence without any prompting and began mooing as loud as they could at all of the cows.  It was really, really loud, and they were just having a grand time making a racket.  The cows stared, perplexed.  Every once in a while a cow would moo back, curiously, which just motivated them to moo with an even more determined urgency.  It was hilarious.

This little one was right in the mix.  Every time Auntie Jennifer would start to carry him back to the house because she was getting cold, he’d turn around and truck right back to the group and continue mooing.

Those are sly, mischievous eyes, but he’s one incredibly adorable little person.

Cousin Jack wanted to moo with the cows a little longer than everyone else, so he and I stayed outside a bit longer when everyone else went inside to warm up.
