  • Helicopters have been flying in my house these past few weeks.  There are several, and they add to the chaos exponentially.  They hover and crash.  Their remote control signals get mixed up.  Their short lived battery life invokes tantrums before they are recharged.  They set off the carbon monoxide detector.  They fly by my hair and nearly get tangled when I least expect it.
  • We got six more inches of extraordinarily wet, unexpected  snow yesterday.  Actually, it was so wet it was practically slush falling from the sky, but it counts as snow according to the weather experts, and that has put us up to 130.1 inches of snow this winter, which is the third snowiest winter measured in the history of my city.  We’re not far from moving up a few places on the list of snowiest winters, either.  It’s a good thing I like freshly fallen snow.
  • Mr. TOF visited the preschool he will be attending next fall at their open house last night.  He is over the moon with excitement about going there.  When I said I would miss having him around, he informed me I would be fine because he’d be back home soon.  I love our preschool.  If it wasn’t such a great place, I’d feel so much sadder about sending him.  He’s very ready to go.
  • YaYa has joined the track team.  I’m so happy she likes to run long distances so much.  I can’t even fathom liking that, because I hated running so much when I was a teenager, and quite frankly, running is just never going to me my thing.  However, it is the season of preparation for the annual Cougar Chase race for our elementary school, so I try to practice running with my middles.  The Banana has some incredible endurance.  Mr. SP takes after me a bit more.  He’s still a lot faster than me even though he stops for a lot of breaks though.  I am usually struggling to keep my runners within eye shot they zoom (and I plod) around the neighborhood.  The other day Mr. SP mentioned, “You, know, if you were a grandma, you’d actually be pretty fast.  But you’re just a mom.”  The Banana usually beams sincerely and  says encouraging things like, “Mom, you are SO GOOD at walking long distances! And I’m good at running long distances.”  Ho hum.
  • Our neighbor half way down the street has tapped some of our big maple trees as well as a few other trees along the street to make maple syrup this year.  There are several parents from our school who are pooling their sap and are going to have a gigantic maple syrup making weekend soon.  When our neighbor halfway down the street has a conflict, sometimes our kidlets do the sap collecting.  They LOVE pulling the wagon up and down the street to collect the sap.  One day I helped them, and I do have to admit, it was quite satisfying.    It’s amazing how much sap they can collect multiple times in a day.  It’s also amazing how MUCH sap it takes to make maple syrup:  50 gallons of sap for each gallon of syrup.  Luckily they have hundreds and hundreds of gallons so far.
  • I love days when I can have the windows wide open.  Fresh air is my favorite.
