A Race

The Banana and Dr. Peds were up and out of the house early this morning, in time to go downtown and catch the scenic train to see the start of the Harvest Fun Run.  No one was running the regular 5K race from our house, but those two snatched up the opportunity to ride the train for free down to the starting line and back to the finish line.  The report is that The Banana loved riding the train.  We see the train often, traveling along it's little track, past the lakewalk and into the depot, but we haven't ever actually ridden it.

I transported Ya Ya and Mr. Sneaky Pants to swimming lessons, where the big and exciting news was that Mr. SP learned how to do the frog kick.  He LOVES swimming lessons.  Ya Ya is turning out to be a magnificent swimmer as well:  she's better than me now and can even do the butterfly.

We drove down to join in the race fun after swimming.  Mr. SP and The Banana were signed up to do a kids triathalon that involved pedaling a big wheel, running a short distance, and then crawling through a tunnel as fast as possible.  They were so excited to participate.  Ya Ya's age group was running a 1K race that we missed because of swimming lessons, and had decided not to sign up for in the first place because that's a long enough distance that it might take just a little bit of practice beforehand.  So, she and I were spectators.

Both of these kidlets are super duper tall for their age.  They totally tower over everyone in their age group, which kind of gives them a distinct advantage in a preschool race.  They both finished far, far ahead of the rest of their small heats, which they were pretty proud of, even though I, with my noncompetitive disposition, kept emphasizing how great it would be just to be in the race even if they were way at the end.

After the race, there were all sorts of fun things to do:  face painting, a bouncy house, a fishing for prizes booth, and there was even time to participate in a pumpkin patch frenzy and collect three pumpkins to bring home before we were off to feed three very, very hungry tummies.  Actually, make that four very hungry tummies.  Dr. Peds had forgotten to have breakfast.
