Quinoa Burgers

The Banana and Dr. Peds made quinoa burgers last week.  I love that cooking quinoa burgers is something they enjoy doing together.  Last summer they researched and perfected a recipe for quinoa burgers to serve as an alternative protein source for our resident vegetarian when we cook hamburgers.  I’m not even sure of the process for making quinoa burgers, actually, because the two chefs have it down pat.

It turns out that all the kidlets LOVE these quinoa burgers.  If given the choice, they will pick the quinoa burgers over all sorts of fancy meat Dr. Peds has cooked up in his special grill.  Some of them will even choose a quinoa burger over a hamburger or a hot dog.  It kind of mystifies me, but I’m not complaining.  On its own, I think quinoa is fine.  I could eat it like rice.  It’s really just a grain, and it tastes fine.  In burger form, (which involves lots of beans as well) it just doesn’t work for me.  I think it’s a texture issue as well as a taste issue for me.  But, I’m a pretty picky eater, so don’t let that stop you from trying quinoa burgers if you ever come visiting.  I’m a picky eater about almost everything, and actually I’ve been mentally working on a blog post about that for quite some time.

If you do eat the quinoa burgers, though, prepare yourself for some amazingly odorous gas.  There’s nothing like it.  Uff.
