Conversations: Concerning my Wardrobe

This morning YaYa joined us for breakfast.  It was a special treat because she leaves for school later than the others, and often gets up late and makes her own breakfast because she doesn’t enjoy dealing with her siblings and especially her mother in the morning.  She was calmly sitting at the table, and in a good mood.

YaYa:  I am going to have a relaxed day today?

The Banana:  Why?

YaYa:  I’m wearing my comfortable, pajama like clothes:  stretchy pants and this hoodie sweatshirt.

Mr. SP:  Those look like normal clothes to me.

YaYa:  No, hoodies are what you wear when you want to lounge around.  They are lounging clothes.  (The she looks at me).  Unless you are Mom.  If you are Mom, hoodies are what you wear every day.  They are your work clothes.

Mr. SP:  I guess that’s true.  Mom does wear hoodies a lot.

YaYa:  Yep, Mom likes her hoodies.  She really, really likes her hoodies.

It’s true.  I really do love a good hoodie.  It’s not true that I wear them to work, though.   I pull on a hoodie  first thing in the morning and don’t take it off until I have to get ready to put on my teaching clothes or church clothes. I have hoodies with frayed cuffs that I’ve nursed along for eighteen years.    I’ll wear a hoodie and pajama pants pretty much anywhere I can get away with it:  the forest, the post office, the grocery store, the library.  Hoodies are my friend, the perfect clothing choice.  They are just the right amount of warm, they are snuggly, and roomy.  Best of all, when you are done with the world, you can put your hood up and retreat.
