Wednesday Night at the Races

This summer I have not been able to convince YaYa to run at Wednesday Night at the Races, and Mr. SP has held out for some major bribery before he has participated.  Last week he brought a book and a chair with him, which was maybe almost a little ridiculous, but probably not worth fighting about.  He HAS participated both weeks we have gone because I convinced him to run at the last minute. (He’s just like me in regard to physical activity, so I get it.  Stilly, it’s important to move your body, so I don’t mind holding the prospect of extra time on the iPad in front of him like a carrot in front of a hare).  The Banana and Mr. Trouble on Feet are all about racing around a track on a midsummer night.  Even though I’m not a runner, I love watching my kids at Wednesday night at the races.  It’s exciting.  It’s also such a great free activity for all families in our community.  So many people come each week, and I love that all those kids are excited to run.   The races are organized so well.  They zoom hundreds of kids through all the races in less than an hour, which is the perfect length of time.

That Banana.  She’s a fast one, always at the head of the pack.  She’s smart about how she runs her race, too, planning out just when she will accelerate past a bunch of runners in and zip to the finish.  She’s a lean, strong, speedy machine.
