Sunday Night at the Beach: The Storm Rolls In

The Banana was still playing at our neighbor’s house, and when she called home to check in and found out we were headed to the sandy beach in a few minutes, she decided to come home.  In the process, she mentioned to her friends that we were going to the beach, so our neighbors halfway down the street and our neighbors up the hill decided to come as well.  It had been an extraordinarily humid day, and a beach trip would be just the thing.  We had already eaten, but some of our neighbors picked up pizza on the way to feed the hungry masses who had not eaten.

All that humidity cooked up a wonderful thunderstom, and we were lucky to get to watch it roll in from a terrific vantage point on the flat sand beach.  Unfortunately, I brought all the wrong lenses to capture the amazing clouds.  They started off as big white thunderheads.
Meanwhile, there was sand dune leaping.  It looked like they were flying, and the sand makes for a nice soft landing. There was the consumption of pizza and guacamole.  There were brave souls who went swimming.  First just a couple were willing to wade in. Pretty soon they were convincing others to join them.
It’s such a terrific way to cool down on a hot and humid day, like submerging yourself in an enormous bucket of ice water. Soon the sun was setting behind the thunderclouds, and there was an amazing, ominous orange glow.  Over the lake the clouds were doing this as all sorts of crazy air of multiple temperatures mixed up over the icy water.  I really, really wish I had the foresight to bring a wider angle lens so you could see the big picture.  It was amazing. You can’t see it very well, but the rain was already starting to fall downtown as the sky darkened into blackness.  Soon it was a torrential downpour, but we were in our car by then!
