Building a Fort

Mr. Sneaky Pants came across The Boy’s Book of Adventures in the gift shop at Split Rock Lighthouse.  He begged to get it.  We convinced him to wait and check the library first.  He ended up coming home and presenting me with the funds to purchase it online.  OK.  It’s a great little book.  I’m not a boy and I’m not adventurous, so I could possibly be missing the point, maybe, but I can tell you this: any book that inspires your ten year old to beg for a trip to the forest so that he can try to build different forts is a good book.  It’s my kind of book even if I don’t understand it!  Mr. Sneaky Pants had a long discussion with me as we walked in the forest about why this book was absolutely fantastic, handy to have around.

So, on Saturday morning we headed to Hartley to build a fort.  Mr. SP planned and executed the whole entire process himself.  The girls watched and did other things, and Mr. TOF built his own age appropriate version of a fort.  It was a humid and sweaty morning, but no bugs!  There are hardly any mosquitos this summer.  I’m not sure why, but it sure makes hanging out in the forest a terrific experience.  We did some additional tree climbing as we headed out of the forest. Every day is a good day to climb a tree.
