Running Club
It’s running season here. YaYa is at track practice a few days each week, specializing in the mile race. She’s always liked long distance running.
The Banana and Mr. SP have been going to running club at their school to train for the Cougar Chase 5K race coming up in a few weeks. I never cease to be amazed that my children are running five kilometers. Some of them enjoy it a lot more than others, but I am always impressed that they can actually RUN that far. Even the more reluctant ones keep going.
Running club at school is pretty much the bees knees, if you ask me. It was such a genius idea that someone came up with a few years ago. It’s so much more motivating to be training for the 5K race with friends, and the idea of running the race together in in the end is a great tangible goal. Even the most reluctant runner in my bunch doesn’t mind going to running club, and I’m thrilled that they are getting some intense physical activity.
Some days they go for their 30 minute after school run at running club, and then have to walk home because it is a teaching day for me and I can’t leave to pick them up. Dr. Peds picks them up if he’s not working, but sometimes they need to walk the two mile uphill trek back home. Last Monday was one of those days, and when Mr. SP arrived home word has it that he downed a bowl of cereal (the last little remnant of cereal in the house) and then promptly fell sound asleep on the couch for 2 hours. Awesome! He was in a great mood when he did finally wake up.
