Mr. TOF Gets His Kindergarten Shots

He was worried, very worried, about his checkup at the doctor’s office because he knew that some shots were going to be in order so that he could be declared ready for kindergarten next year.  For days he kept an informal, nervous countdown of dread until the appointed time came.

The checkup zipped right along because this active kid is a healthy little guy. Soon it was time for the nurse to come in with the syringes. He bravely hopped up on the exam table, and Dr. Peds, (who was able to come along to the appointment) distracted him with some sports talk.   Before he knew it, he was done!  Mr. TOF and YaYa both have pretty high pain tolerances, and neither of them thought that kindergarten shots were terrible:  a little pinch and life goes on.

That was NOT the case for the middle kidlets.  Immunizations were quite a bit more dramatic for them.

Dr. Peds doesn’t like getting shots very much, and he always seems to get quite sore.  When he got his kindergarten shots, he remembers limping around for days.

I vividly remember getting my kindergarten shots at the school one day from the county nurse.  Like Mr. TOF, I was very, very worried about the idea, but when it actually happened, I remember sitting there and looking away, feeling a pinch and them telling me it was done.  I remember asking, “Really?  That’s IT?”  I couldn’t believe people made such a big deal about it.  I’ve felt that way about most shots I’ve gotten.

I think lab draws are fascinating too.  I love watching those little vials fill up with blood.

But please, please do not make me pick up wet napkins, mushy toilet paper or soggy Kleenex.  Gag.
