Tenzi
I read about the game Tenzi on another blog (sorry, I forget which one). The simplicity of the game, simply trying to be the first person to roll ten dice of the same number, and the speed of the game intrigued me. I actually generally really dislike playing games with my kidlets. It’s sad, but true. Dr. Peds is a great game player, and it’s one of his favorite ways to spend time with the kids, but I have a long list of things I’d rather do with them (including, quite frankly, cleaning dirty toilets) than sitting down to play games. I’ll read out loud for hours, no problem. Please do not ask me to play games with them. I know, I know.
Anyway, I just felt interested in this game, and last week we had four super rainy, cold days in a row. On one of those days we took everyone to Barnes and Nobles just because we were all getting just a little stir crazy. That’s saying a lot, because I rarely get stir crazy either. I love being home and hate shopping. While wandering around the store I came across Tenzi, and because I had a gift card, I said, “Why not?”
It turned out to be a great choice! This game is so fast that I don’t even mind playing 20 rounds in a row. The kids love it, and it’s actually almost relaxing in an odd way, even though you have to be mentally focused on being quick while you are playing. It’s easy to stop and start. The kidlets like it so much they’ve been playing it without any adult supervision, which is really fun to see happening. We happened to buy Tenzi dice, but you could easily just have any dice, as long as you have ten of each color. In fact, I likely will be buying some generic colored dice to supplement ours soon. It doesn’t take up much room to stick in a bag or suitcase, either, and it’s a great game for a rainy day. Or four rainy days. Or even a hot sunny day.
