Bikes at the Duck Pond

Because of all of the hills and super narrow streets, there are NOT many good places for kids to ride a bike in my neighborhood.  This spring, however, we’ve been getting together with our friends up the street and taking the bikes to the duck pond at the cemetery nearby.  The cemetery, I’ve written before, is almost like a giant park.  People walk their dogs there, ride their bikes there, and visit the ducks and geese.  It is well taken care of, and has oodles and oodles of asphalt paths winding in all sorts of directions, up hills and down.  The traffic is low level, and the atmosphere is peaceful.  On any given afternoon you are apt to find many families with children riding around the duck pond on their bikes because the path right there is perfectly flat, and smooth (except for a lot of splotches of duck doodoo).  Around and around they go, for hours on end.  In our family, Ya Ya rides her bike with her friend, Mr. Sneaky Pants usually zips around on his orange scooter, and The Banana is thrilled to be pedaling around on her little bike all by herself with training wheels. Last Monday, when these pictures were taken, the youngest kidlets were still away with Dr. Peds, so it was just Ya Ya wheeling around.  I had a great time hanging out with the youngest member of our friends’ family, who toddles about and is an absolutely hilarious 18 month old.    She loved my camera, and called me “CAMERA!” whenever she saw me from a bit of a distance because the camera was always around my neck or in front of my face.  We had a great time together.
