The Technology King is Worsted by a Five Year Old

Dr. Peds takes a bit of pride in knowing a lot about computers.  He is very good at fixing and setting things up on computers around here and for other people too.  He’s on the up and up with technology.

Yesterday afternoon, I was resting on the couch, recovering from a (thankfully mild) bout of stomach flu.  Dr. Peds was in the dining room getting Ya Ya set up on the kid computer to practice her spelling words on a website her teacher recommended.  The kid computer is unreliable because it’s old.  It will freeze up at unexpected times.  The kids move things around without realizing what they are doing, and that’s OK because it’s the kid computer, and that’s why we have it.  When Dr. Peds turned on the kid computer, the icon for the internet had disappeared.  He loudly asked if I knew where it was or what happened to it.  I replied lazily from the couch that the kids had probably accidentally thrown the icon away again, and that he’d need to drag it down to the dashboard.  Grumble Grumble Grumble went Dr. Peds.

Mr. Sneaky Pants came running in.  “I know where to find it Dad! I know exactly what to do!”

“YOU know where to find it?  Really?” replied Dr. Peds in a thickly sarcastic (not very nice) voice.  He was more than slightly put out by the suggestion.  “Fine.  Go ahead.”

Mr. SP joyfully took over the mouse and clicked on the finder and then on the index and the icon for the internet immediately appeared.

Dr. Peds was shouting  happily in disbelief.  “You really DID know how to find it!”  He couldn’t believe he was shown up by his five year old son who beamed up at him so sweetly.

I laughed and laughed and laughed and told my son he was a genius.
