Evening Ritual

She loves reading in bed in the evening, just like her Mama.  Actually, the whole family loves reading in bed.  It warms my heart so much, and I remember being so frustrated at my parents coming in to stop me from reading right when I got to a good part of the story because they wanted me to sleep that I have to admit, most of the time I just let her (and the others) read themselves to sleep no matter how long it takes.  I can’t help it.  I love reading myself to sleep.  I am convinced I sleep much more soundly when I fall asleep reading.  Dr. Peds doesn’t always like removing all the books hidden in the bedspread before he climbs into bed in the middle of the night, though.

I DON’T always allow apples in bed, but sometimes for a special treat we just go for it.  Tonight she was hungry, and she worked hard cleaning up before bed..  An apple’s healthy.  Rolling over on a slimy apple core in the middle of the night is probably not the end of the world.
