Outside Orchestra Hall

It’s spring break for our school district.  We definitely did not plan any extravagant family vacations.  In fact, the general consensus of all kidlets was, “Let’s stay home.”  However, I suspected that the kidlets might be a little stir crazy by midweek, and Dr. Peds had a little time off of work, so we decided to plan a quick overnight trip to the Cities in the middle of the week.  We left on Tuesday and came back late in the day on Wednesday, and had a really good time.  I’ll post more about what we did while we were there soon.

On our way out of the Cities, we realized that we were driving at an unfortuitous   time of the day, headed straight for the city center at rush hour.  Rather than sit in a traffic jam or drive super slowly through traffic to make our trip even longer, when we couldn’t get on the exit ramp we needed, we headed to downtown Minneapolis instead.  Why not?  We decided to stop and walk around the Nicollet Mall area just to waste time until the traffic died down, and we had a lot of fun gazing up at skyscrapers, and checking out some of the multi-level stores along the street.

The big hit:  revolving doors.  Apparently NONE of the kidlets had ever gone through a revolving door.  Once they got started, they couldn’t stop.  Literally.

Shortly after parking our car, we rounded a corner and there was Orchestra Hall!  I probably couldn’t have found Orchestra Hall if I tried (my poor city navigational skills are yet another subject for a long blog post).  But there it was!  We crossed the street to get a better look, and were delighted to find that Yo-Yo Ma was scheduled for an upcoming concert.  My two orchestra players couldn’t resist hopping in for a picture next to the sign outside the main entrance, and they insisted that I join them, so Dr. Peds snapped a picture.

Some day maybe we’ll have to journey down to see a Minnesota Orchestra concert.
